Overview

“America is simply awash in immediate-release opioid products,” said Scott Gottlieb, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner. With immediate-release opioids accounting for 90 percent of the 200 million opioid painkiller prescriptions written in the United States each year, how can we improve our prescribing practices?

In this new APRN Pharmacology Today course, get the latest on the opioid overuse epidemic, ways to prevent overdose, and helpful resources. Also, learn about pain evaluation and management, as well as long-acting opioids and abuse-deterrent formulations.

Get current evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, standards of care, and treatment options to ensure safe prescribing of opioids for your patients.

After taking this interactive online course, you will be able to:

  • Review current literature and guideline recommendations for the safe use of opioids,
  • Compare and contrast the available pharmacologic treatments that ensure safe use of opioids,
