Nurses prepared at the master's and doctoral levels are at the interface of translating these genetic and genomic advances into patient care yet, many nurses do not understand the basic language of genomics. Content experts Kathleen Calzone, PhD, RN, APNG, FAAN and Laurie Badzek, RN, MS, JD, Director of ANA Center for Ethics and Human Rights, will help nurses develop a basic understanding of genomics and provide competent patient-oriented care.
This nursing continuing education activity awards outcome-based CE credit to nurses in the form of a Level 2 certificate. This certificate may be used for seeking or renewing national nursing certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Kathleen Calzone, PhD, RN, APNG, FAAN
Dr. Calzone is a Senior Nurse Specialist, Research in the Genetics Branch of the Center for Cancer Research at the National Cancer Institute. She received her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Syracuse University and her Master's of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. She received her PhD from the University of Glamorgan in Wales, which she chose to pursue in Wales because of the opportunity to work with Professor Maggie Kirk who is the Lead Professional Specialist for the United Kingdom (UK) nursing profession for the National Health Service National Genetics Education and Development Centre in the UK. Dr. Calzone is credentialed in genetics by the Genetic Nursing Credentialing Commission and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. She is also a past president of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics.
